The Tanargue massif, which culminates at almost 5,000 feet, overlooks the entire Pays Beaume-Drobie. This vast crest of granite which stands out in the landscape takes the name ‘Tanargue’ from the protohistoric era.
“Taranis”, the Celtic god of the sky and thunder appeared in all his violence on “Arga”, the mountain, hence the name Tanargue, the ‘Thunder Mountain’.
