The Mill of Cézille

The mill of Cézille, known as "Moulin Gaud", tells us an important part of the history of Bresse, through its machinery and a small museum created by a team of enthusiasts.
The mill of Cézille or Gaud mill, benefits from the driving force of the Reyssouze, emblematic river of Bresse which was formerly marked out by 37 mills, that is to say one every two kilometers! As a consequence of the important cereal culture in the region, many of them have medieval origins. This is the case of the one in Cézille. However, the oldest written trace dates from 1667. It is characteristic of the Bresse mills, i.e. straddling the river.
Property of the Gaud family since 1880, it ceases its activity in 1977 and is then sold. Restored by a team of passionate volunteers, it is now a small museum. If the most impressive part of the building is the big paddle wheel, you can also discover the horizontal sawmill, the flour mill, the power station, the Ruston & Hornsby engine of 1931 (still working), the miller's room, the exhibition room with paintings, photos, posters, ceramics.
