The Town Hall building is an old manor house with ten rooms on the ground floor and another eight upstairs.
The deed of sale reveals the history of Morestel Town Hall since 1850.
The council offices were transferred here in 1949, occupying the part of the building to the left of the entrance, with the secretary's living quarters installed upstairs.
Town Hall gardens
The gardens were redesigned in 2004 during renovation of the building. The gardens are open to the general public and freely accessible. The new layout resembles an artist's palette, with about twenty circular areas devoted to trees, perennial plants, flowers or play features for children.
The war memorial
In 1989, with the approval of the veterans' associations, the war memorial was moved to the Town Hall gardens to make way for a roundabout and fountain in the station district where it had previously stood.
The memorial was inaugurated on 18th September 1921 by Monsieur Chanoz (who was mayor at the time) in remembrance of the soldiers of the great war of 1914-1918.
