This promontory at 745m overlooks the Moselle valley and offers magnificent views. Hollows cut into the sandstone measuring around 70cm in diameter have earned this plateau the name of ‘Tête des Cuveaux’, and bear witness to the presence of ancient glaciers: water from streams flowing over the surface of these glaciers would have produced these erosions. These cup-shaped rocks give off a powerful natural magnetism, suggesting that this place has been known for thousands of years by other civilisations.
At just 470 metres, a 9-metre-high lookout equipped with an orientation table and educational panels stands at the highest point, at an altitude of 783 metres.
Access: hike from the Club Vosgien topo-guide. Head towards le Frêne / le Croc, straight on at the transformer, then pass the cross at the car park.
