Description

The "Cheslin" is located near the village of Herlinval and it is a Gallo-Roman entrenched camp dating back to the 3rd and 4rth centuries that was used as a refuge by the inhabitants during wars and invasions. Archaeological excavations showed several vestiges, such as water tanks, outer walls and towers, and the place of an ancient millstone. You can also see several little holes made in the rocky ground that were used as anchoring for the breast masts of wooden huts. It was certainly the settlement of a rural community who lived of farming or of forests exploiting.
