La Garenne bollard

La Garenne bollard
La Garenne bollard

Description

Armoured stone boundary marker used to demarcate old properties
Sandstone bollard, attached to the wall of a river bank, with a bas-relief coat of arms on two opposite sides.
On one side, a coat of arms identified as that of the Agoult-Pontevès, two of the oldest and most illustrious families of Provence, established in the Hyères region from the 16th century.
On the opposite side, a shield representing two greyhounds, whose identification remains enigmatic.
Restoration work in 2016 revealed the opposite side and the coat of arms.
Recognised as an archaeological feature on the national archaeological map.
