Over 2,000 years old, Melun, the prefecture town, developed around its island and the Seine. A royal town from the 11th century and throughout the Middle Ages, Melun still boasts a wealth of prestigious monuments.
The Ile Saint-Étienne on the Seine and the historic town centre have some very fine traces of the past.
Located on the Ile Saint-Étienne, discover places full of charm and history: the collegiate church of Notre-Dame, the priory of Saint-Sauveur, the remains of the old fortifications, the facades of the old post office and the municipal museum in the Hôtel de la Vicomté, as well as the botanical garden.
Melun's present-day town centre is packed with Portes, old houses and porches dating back to the Middle Ages.
