Built on the foundations of an ancient feudal manor from the Middle Ages, the Château de Lorrez-le-Bocage-Préaux (77) was constructed by Aymar de Brisay, Lord of La Motte and Lorrez from 1480 to 1512.

Much later, in 1839, it was bought and restored by Madame Amélie Greffulhe, Countess Paul de Ségur.

She died on 24 December 2007 at the Château de Villeniard retirement home, where she had spent part of her childhood. Her son, Count Bernard de La Rochefoucauld, is the current owner of Château de la Motte.
