Description

This spring, Château de la Motte in Lorrez-le-Bocage will be opening its grounds to the public as part of a special "Gardens in the Gâtinais" event organised by the Lions Club of Montereau.
Château de la Motte is not open to the public.
The castle :
Built on the foundations of an ancient feudal manor from the Middle Ages, the Château de Lorrez-le-Bocage-Préaux (77) was constructed by Aymar de Brisay, Lord of La Motte and Lorrez from 1480 to 1512.

Much later, in 1839, it was bought and restored by Madame Amélie Greffulhe, Countess Paul de Ségur.

It was at this time that Russian-born Sophie Rostopchine, "Comtesse de Ségur" and famous writer, came to the château to visit the family of her husband, Count Eugène de Ségur, a cousin of Count Paul.

Juliette, the daughter of the Countess and Count Paul de Ségur, married Count Roger de La Rochefoucauld in 1853. In 1947, her great-grandson married Princess Geneviève de Mérode, who thus became Countess Hubert de La Rochefoucauld, whose attentiveness, availability and great generosity have left in people's hearts the image of a great lady. She died on 24 December 2007 at the Château de Villeniard retirement home, where she had spent part of her childhood. Her son, Count Bernard de La Rochefoucauld, is the current owner of Château de la Motte.
