Description

Established since the Gallo-Roman time, the vineyard, cultivated during the Middle Ages in the cloistered setting, was at its height in the 19th century. The village still has prosperous-looking houses that testify of this prosperity, ended because of the ravages of the phylloxera (disease caused by a destructive aphid) in the early 20th century. Some enthusiasts recreated the vineyard; the wine of Boudes, a fruity and heady wine (Côte d’Auvergne) is due to that recreation, and its reputation is now recognized. The vineyards Pélissier, Annie Sauvat, Le Clos des Monts and the Charmensat’s wine cellar offer you tastings and visits of wine cellar by appointment.

This wine-making village is characterized by a rich and diversified architecture. You can notice the little houses with front steps or “estre”, protected by a canopy. The Saints’ valley is at 30 minutes walking. This site, with its amazing shapes and colours, remains of the tropical climate of the tertiary era and classified “Natural and Sensitive Area”, is to discover (5km walk).

This wine-growing village is known for “the Saints valley”, at 30 min walking of the centre. This place, vestige of the tropical climate of the tertiary era and classified “Natural and Sensitive Area” is to discover with a 5km marked out hike. Walking from the Saints Valley to Bard, you will discover its salted natural and mineral springs. A halophil fauna and flora grow near these springs. At the end of the pond of the “cauldron” gaseous spring, we discovered in the 19th century a treasure of 67 bronze Romanesque coins.
