This is the largest high-altitude marsh in the Chartreuse Park. It is made up of three natural environments: orchid meadows, reed beds and scattered willow woodlands.
The Marais des Sagnes is located a little way out of town, in a valley below the hamlet of Les Sagnes. It offers a mosaic of wetlands: reedbeds, orchid meadows and willow groves of high biological value. The site lies on the edge of the forested slopes of the Ecoutoux, in a traditional mid-mountain agricultural landscape. The marsh is home to numerous species of mammals, amphibians and birds, such as the Roe Deer and the Common Snipe. It is also home to protected plants such as the Marsh Ragwort and the beautiful Traunsteiner's Orchid.
