SAINT STEPHEN'S CATHEDRAL AND ITS CLOISTER

Description

Built from 1221 and completed around 1500, with a Romanesque plan and Gothic construction, the Saint Étienne Cathedral is the symbol of Toul’s rich past. Its flamboyant front, richest part of the building contrasts with the austere radiant Gothic style of the rest of the monument.

The cloister was built during the XIII and XIV centuries. Being 54m by 42m, it is one of the widest of France. An interesting range of gargoyles completes the setting.

From mid-June to European Heritage Days-from 9 :30 am to 6 :30 pm, a guide is at the Cathedrale everyday to welcome visitors and curious people. There is a possibility to go up in the South tour in summer. The Cathedral shop and Treasure room are opened only during the summer season !
