Due to the particularly difficult climate conditions in the High Jura, the population has needed to adapt its architecture. Roof ridges (the place where the two sides of the roof meet) are turned towards the prevailing direction of the wind, in particular to avoid an excess of snow on one side of the roof which could damage the roof’s structure. Most roofs were built as one block with the walls, as an overhanging roof would give high winds the necessary grip to rip off the roof. To further prevent the wind from damaging the roof, each side of the roof is split into 2 perpendicular panes, creating a roof with 4 panes.
