-Coussay-les-Bois is unusual in that it boasts two churches, just a few meters apart: Saint-Martin church, now disused, and Notre-Dame church, now the only parish church. Built in the 12th century, Notre-Dame is the only church in Poitou with a domed nave.
Notre-Dame church stands in the northern part of the village, just off the main street, with a small square beside it. The lower part of the bell tower, with its blind arcatures and modillion cornice, and the two arms of the transept appear to be the oldest parts of the building (1st half of the 12th century), followed shortly by the nave (mid-12th century). The choir and flat chevet were built in the 15th century, and the west facade in the 19th.
The history of the nave can be read on its walls.
