Ce menhir authentifié par le conservateur du Musée de Genève est difficile à dater, peut être 5000 ans ou 2000 ans avant Jésus-Christ.
Il est l’un des rares menhir du Périgord.
L’appellation de menhir vient du nom celtique, men : pierre, hir : long (grande ou longue pierre).
