Dans la rue du Chardonnet et sur la place de l’église, on remarque de belles maisons des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles ainsi qu’un puits couvert. La maison dite de Fombertaud, voisine du musée, existait déjà en 1789. C’était la résidence d’Antoine Fombertaud, qui fut maire de Plassac de 1793 à 1813. Les initiales A F figurent encore sur une imposte. Une des curiosités de la maison est d’être dotée d’un puits aménagé dans une grande pièce du rez-de-chaussée.
