The North Gate called "prison door" is the only vestige of the original enclosure. It was built in 1371 at the expense of Gaston III Fébus. Above the pointed arch, we see the traces of two coats of arms that have been destroyed. On the one on the right, you can make out the Béarnaise cows of the Béarn shield. This gate was the northern entrance to the city from Pau. It has been listed in the additional inventory of Historic Monuments.
Gan is the only Bastide in the department to have kept an original door.
