MUSEUM OF THE CERAMICS AND THE IVORY
Description
The museum, which opened in 1997, is housed in the old municipal baths complex, a building in the Art Deco style inspired by the Royal Pavilion built in the grounds of Commercy Castle between 1747 and 1754 by the architect, Emmanuel Heré.
It boasts one of the largest public collections of ivory in France, with pieces dating from the 17th to 20th centuries. It also has a fine collection of delftware and porcelain that is representative of the leading European and Chinese centres between the 17th and 20th centuries. In addition to these exhibits, there are display cases showing items connected with the history and crafting of ivory and ceramics.
