Cette tour du XIIIe siècle témoigne du rôle qu’ont joué des Hospitaliers de St-Jean dans l’accueil des pèlerins qui traversaient Lourdes, dès le Moyen Age. Eleveurs de moutons (en particulier à Gavarnie), les Hospitaliers bénéficièrent de la proximité du marché pour écouler leur production.
