Parcoul borders the Charente department. In 1790, when the départements were created, the commune briefly belonged to Charente-Inférieure (now Charente-Maritime), before finally joining the Dordogne. The architecture of some of the houses suggests that Parcoul was once a bastide town. Don't miss the church of Saint-Martin, listed as a historic monument since 1979.
With its leisure park and Paradou" campsite, Parcoul has become a popular destination for tourists from all over France and abroad.
