Wash-house - 17th and 19th centuries.
Stone.
According to tradition, water swirls around Le Touran on all sides. Several springs, ponds, pools and fountains exist or have existed in this area. Pilgrims on their way to Vézelay, arriving on this side of the village, would refresh themselves and wash their feet here before entering the bastide or going to the priory. In the 19th century, and probably earlier, drinking troughs were built for horses and oxen. Upstream, a fountain was built exclusively for drinking water. Opposite, the farmhouse had its own cattle pond and well. Below, another spring emerges from the rock and feeds the surrounding covered washhouse. A meeting place, the women of the village would come here on set days to meet up with their friends.
