At the 1st World War, american soldiers began to fight in this surroundings of Lunévillois and the 3 first Americans killed in France were died near the village of Bathelémont.
A first war memorial, drawned by Louis Majorelle, was built in front of the old church (now destroyed) in Bathelémont as early as November 1918. However, this memorial was destroyed during the 2nd World War in October 1940. A new monument was built and unveil on 9th May 1955. Then, this new memorial was moved near the cemetery of the district on 19th August 1977. Nowadays it is the place where the monument can be found.
The dead bodies of those 3 Americans were never burried under this war memorial ; but the monument was erect to remember those first american soldiers killed in France.
