St Philbert de Grand-Lieu is a town of 9,000 inhabitants in the southern suburbs of Nantes, in the countryside with access to the Atlantic coast within 20 minutes via motorway. Lake Grandlieu bird sanctuary is a few kilometers away and is reknown for its hiking trails.
A must see, the Carolingian abbey of the 9th century.
Trails around St Philbert are popular amongst cyclists and hikers. The town's base nautique, quaint lake-side beach, and neighbouring forest/country trails are also within walking distance (5mins).
