Don't miss a visit to the church of Notre Dame du Vieux Pouzauges, a Romanesque building with exceptional wall paintings dating from the 11th and 12th centuries! The iconographic themes taken from the Old Testament and apocryphal texts make Notre-Dame church a unique site in France.
Listed as a Historic Monument, the church also contains other treasures such as a Gothic liturgical washbasin and a pavement made from funerary slabs.
An audio commentary is available to help you discover the church and its murals. Guided tours for groups are available all year round by prior arrangement.
Two exhibitions have been installed for the summer:
- 700 years of the diocese": this exhibition looks back at the history of the diocese of Luçon, which was split between the dioceses of Poitiers, La Rochelle and Maillezais.
- The Chapelle des Vendéens in Lourdes is celebrating its 150th anniversary, and the second exhibition presents the chapels dedicated to Mary, as well as the statues and grottoes of Lourdes in the parish.
