THE RINDÖ CULTURE WALK - 5
Lugnet
You are now standing at the 22nd artillery battery and you can see how well it was located for being able to shoot on the enemy. The military personnel quarters opposite was built before the turn of the last century.
West Rindö, situated close to Vaxholm and shipping, also has a long civilian history, of course. The photo shows the summer activity Lugnet, held down on the waters edge, built in the mid- 1870s.
The Crown bought this property in 1920 as an officers’ quarters.
Near Lugnet was a leafy fruit and garden centre with meadows stretching down to the jetty towards Vaxholm with a fantastic views over the mirror of water and the steamships.
A ruined Lugnet was burned down during a fire drill at the end of the 1970s.
