Balneario de Mondariz

The Balneario de Mondariz is a resort which includes several centres offering a wide range of services. Among them, it stands out the historic building of the Gran Hotel, designed by Jenaro de la Fuente, along with its gardens, which were both recently restored. It is also remarkable the old Hotel Sanatorio, a non-finished project by Antonio Palacios, where the hotel would be built; the statue of Peinador; the thermal fountains of Troncoso, accessible from a path along the Tea River, and A Gándara, enclosed in a polished granite construction also designed by Antonio Palacios. Finally, elements as the golf course, the Local Museum of Water or the Palacio del Agua (housing the modern leisure and thermal facilities) make up this great leisure space.

The spa lived a golden age and received the visit of renowned and important personalities of the time from the worlds of culture, thought and politics: Castelao, the queen Isabella of Portugal or Emilia Pardo Bazán. The village had its own printing house, which issued their own weekly La Temporada and the magazine Mondariz. It had even its own coin, known as peinador. The Spanish Civil War would bring the life in the village to a standstill and later, a great fire in 1973 would put an end to its golden age. Today, it has been completely recovered and adapted to current times. The spa Balneario de Mondariz, being more than a century old, is today endowed with the most modern techniques for the use of mineromedicinal waters, ideal for health, beauty and relaxing treatments.
