Remarkable site for its avifaunistic diversity, the wetland of the marshes between Braud-et-Saint-Louis and St-Ciers-sur-Gironde is the result of the reclamation of the mudflats along the estuary. The sector is explored by car or bicycle on the small, little-used roads that cross it. There are large cultivated areas dotted with old owl houses as well as numerous water plots for hunting by the ton (from August to January). In spite of this practice, the presence of hunting and wildlife reserves makes it possible to welcome and observe many species. Reedbeds, ripisylve, and deciduous woodland near the hillsides to the east, are all environments for the observation of wetland birds. A visit to the Terre d'Oiseaux site at the Port des Callonges is also an option.
