Overlooking Lot Valley and the town of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, 27km north of Agen, Pujols is spread along the top of a rocky overhang, enclosed within the 13th century fortifications. The town still has its gates (Saint Nicolas church bell tower door and the so-called English gate) and ruins of the château which defended the extremely vulnerable plateau.
Pujols is classified as one of the prettiest villages in France. Turning your back on the wide panorama over Agenais, there is a square with a hall where, for centuries, markets have been held. Leaving the pedestrian streets with half-timbered or stone houses, to Sainte Foy Church, now an exhibition hall.
