Welcome to Pompogne, a small village located in the heart of the forest of the moors of Gascony. This town is marked by its troubled medieval past. Indeed, in the 12th century, the village was fortified to protect its inhabitants from invasions. But unlike the many bastides in the region, Pompogne does not have the protection of a fortified castle. It is the church which then becomes the safest place for the villagers. Built in the heart of the village, in the 9th and 16th centuries, the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is a Gothic style building, and has a very refined heart. The capitals and keystones of the church are decorated with representations of fantastic animals. In particular, there is a lamb, symbolizing the sacrifice of Christ, surmounted by a hand or the inscription Jesus.
