Description

The church of Saint-Jean-la-Salvetat, rebuilt in the 12th century, is part of a former Commandery of the Knights of Malta.
Two chapels were added to the original building, a simple rectangle. The church has a cross-vaulted choir and a bell gable rebuilt in the 17th century. On the keystone of the chancel is the famous eight-pointed cross of their order, the Maltese cross. Inside the building, there are magnificent stained glass windows recalling the glorious past and the charitable side of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. In addition to the stained glass windows, there is also a treasure trove of gold and silverware, including a beautiful chalice donated by Napoleon III in 1863.
