Circuit l'Ain à vélo n° 27 - La Valromey: la valle romana?

L'une des plus anciennes églises du Valromey. Très beau porche.Alors qu'il existe une trentaine d'églises et chapelles dans le Valromey, l'église de Vieu est l'une des plus belles. C'est l'une des plus anciennes églises du Valromey (XIème et XIIème siècle). Vieu était un vicus, lieu où les légions romaines faisaient halte pour se reposer. Il y avait, à Vieu, un amphithéâtre, un temple, des bains, alimentés par un aqueduc souterrain. L'église a été construite sur l'emplacement d'un ancien temple romain, avec réemploi de dalles et surtout de deux colonnes. Beau porche, choeur de style flamboyant. Le clocher a retrouvé sa flèche initiale en 1985 (flèche construite en tuf, pierre légère et poreuse).
