The Chestnut trees : walk around Najac n°6

You can park your car on the main car park (in front of the Post Office and the Gendarmerie). When you leave the car park, turn left and go down on the road D39 for about 200 meters. In the hairpin bend turn on the left on the way to Saint André de Najac and take the path on the right. Cross the Vernhe stream and go up on the cobbled path. Stay on the left to continue on the steep path. At the wide grassy path turn right and continue to the crossroads.

Turn left on the way to Cassagnes, the path goes around the holiday village VAL-VVF. Continue on the small path going to a beautiful view of Najac. Go straight ahead on the wide footpath for 150 meters. Turn right between the rocks and continue on the stony path going to Cassagnes. At the road, fork on the right to Cassagnes. Turn right on the wide path going along the fields and disappearing into the valley.

Go on the right under the bridge (Pont de Grèzes) and walk along the river for 6 kms on a beautiful shade path. On the way you can watch the kayak whitewater course built for national events. Further on, you will discover the remains of an old watermill (Moulin de Ferragut) and another one still working (Moulin d’Auribal). The path goes along the railway. This railway has a lot of magnificent work of engineering on the Monteils-Laguépie section.

At the main road (D 594), turn on the left and cross the medieval bridge. Turn right on the road going along the river. [Junction possible with the tour n°3 if you continue straight ahead after the medieval bridge]. At the swimming pool, continue following the river on the path going to the main bridge (Pont de la Frégère). [Junction possible with the tours n°1 and n°2 if you turn left on the road and 30 meters after on the right on the small street going up]. Cross the bridge and go uphill on the old medieval path. At the crossroads below the village, turn on the right. In the street, turn on the left to pass in front of the chapel and continue straight on to get to the main square. [Junction possible with the tour n°4 if you continue after the main square on the street going to the Gendarmerie].
