The Frau Gorge is the result of a long geological evolution. The mountain of Frau is an accumulation of secondary folded and compressed tablecloths carved by the glaciations, the strong snows and numerous floods digging the valley in gorges.

Discovery of an exceptional natural environment At an altitude of 850 m, this chasm is about 60m by 30m and is accessible thanks to a platform of vision for a visit in full safety. It is the abyss of both absorption and collapse. The total depth reaches about 110m. This hole was a mass grave. When the horses were at the end of their life, their owner took them to this chasm. We guess then why this hole was prized crows.

A rare phenomenon and really extraordinary. For most of the year (7 to 9 months), the fountain runs constantly. On the other hand, during periods of low water from July to September, one day, it becomes abruptly intermittent over a complete cycle of about 60 to 90 minutes.

The refuge is located in the Mont Valier nature reserve, an iconic Couserans peak in the heart of the Ariege Pyrenees Regional Nature Park. As soon as you arrive, you can introduce yourself to the warden(s) and discuss the "welcome arrangements" (obviously you have booked your overnight stay and/or meals in advance). Once you've had a rest and taken in the exceptional views, you'll go through the hikers' entrance to settle in according to the wardens' advice and, last but not least, you won't miss dinner! There's just one service for everyone, at 7.30pm! There are many hiking itineraries and multi-day tours. Summits, lakes and valleys offer a wealth of choices, not forgetting the summit of Mont Valier, just 1 hour from the refuge.

The municipal camping Birotos located in Pradelles Cabardès in the Aude is the ideal place to stay for hiking or exploring the historical sites of the Cathar country. Direct access to the lake: beach, swimming, relaxing ... 30 locations. Supervised swimming in July and August.

In Pradelles-Cabardès, Laure will welcome you in an ancient stonemade house, entirely restored with natural materials in the high part of the village at a altitude of 820m. Facing south and with an area of 90m², this cottage can accommodate up to 6 people.
