At the crossroads

From the village of Domsure, a big loop in the Bresse countryside to meet the hamlets and the river of Solnan. Located at the north-east end of the department of Ain, the commune of Domsure borders the departments of Saône & Loire and Jura, the meeting point of the 3 regions: Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne and Franche Comté. It has the particularity to be strongly wooded. This path will offer you pleasant passages through WOODS: Taillis Soldat, Binand wood, Fougemagne wood.... where you will be able to enjoy the scent of lily of the valley in spring. You will be surprised by the presence of crosses erected at certain crossroads, along a path or a road, sometimes in the middle of the countryside, curiosities that you can find throughout the territory. Domsure, the township with 11 crosses (?) : mission cross at the cemetery, cross of the Richardière, cross of the hamlet of the Cross, cross of Mailly, cross of Manet, cross of Champ Maillet, cross of the Carrouge, cross of the Villard, mission cross, cross Peyrouse. A particular cross is visible on the ground, on the "paradise" of the church: the CROSS OF SAINT MAURICE. The coffins are placed there on burial days, and the ceremony begins there. An old belief (forgotten nowadays) located the demon at the crossroads of the roads. A place where, it seems, he enjoyed himself. To keep the evil away from the villages, some crosses, formerly made of wood, today made of stone, were installed at the crossroads. During your walk, in Crocaly, make a small detour to the vicinity of the river "Solnan" to admire the MOULIN DE LESCHAUX. Built on the river, on the site of an old mill, this turbine mill produced bread flour, flour for cattle and the famous "gaudes" flour (roasted corn flour, the basis of the old food). Operated from 1902 to 1969, it is now a house (private property).

Meeting the father of Europe

A long walk between the two rivers of Solnan and Sevron with a view of the Revermont. At the end of the route, discovery of the pond Les Baisses and of the farm with Saracen chimney of Bévey. The northernmost commune of the canton, BEAUPONT borders the department of Saône & Loire through its limits with Condal and Varennes Saint-Sauveur. The Orphanage of Bevey, known as the Foyer Saint Joseph. In 1842, Father Deliance built the chapel of Bevey and then in 1864, an agricultural orphanage : the Foyer Saint Joseph. In the course of time, the orphanage was enlarged and in 1964 it became a Medical-Pedagogical Institute (IMP). Since 1996, renovation of the premises and change of its destination, the Foyer Saint Joseph will only welcome disabled people. In 2010, an extension of 1,700 m2 allows the reception of thirty aging disabled adults. aging adults. This new space, inaugurated in January 2012 by Marie-Anne MAUCHAMP, Secretary of State, is named "Robert SCHUMAN" in reference to this illustrious tenant, founder of Europe. He took refuge there in anonymity and clandestinity, under the occupation, from 1943 to 1945. The farm "de Bévey" is a building of character which has the particularity of having a Saracen chimney probably dating from 1706. The theory is that Saracen fireplaces can only be found in the former Seigneurerie de Bâgé. The existence of this type of chimney in Bévey, typical of the natural region of Bresse, confirms the thesis that at the end of the 13th century, Bévey was part of the jurisdiction of Bâgé. The mitre-shaped exterior evokes a minaret. Skillfully restored in 1996, the roof and the whole chimney are listed in the Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques (private property). This walk will allow you to immerse yourself in the diversity of the landscapes of Haute Bresse where large agricultural areas, woods, groves, meadows are successively mixed; with the first foothills of the Jura massif "le Revermont" as a backdrop to the east.

Bois de Fougemagne - Vallées Solnan - Sevron

Starting from Beaupont, a walk on the Bresse paths on the borders of the Sevron and Solnan rivers. A typical landscape between hamlets, pastures and views on the Revermont before reaching the pond of Fougemagne and its large forest. This circuit winds its way through the commune of Pirajoux, formerly situated on a Roman road going from Mâcon to Besançon and passing through Montrevel en Bresse. It became later a toll place between Bresse and Franche Comté. Before reaching the pond of Fougemagne, spectacular point of the route, you will pass in front of the mill of Romanèche also called MOULIN REVEL located on the river "le Solnan". This mill bears witness to the rich milling activity of the past on the Solnan and Sevron rivers. For a century, from 1650 to 1750, it was the property of the Saint-Sulpice family and then of the Carthusian monks of Montmerle. Acquired during the revolution by Denis-Joseph Revel, this mill now belongs to the MICHEL family who use it to make flour for cattle feed. Note some old parts, including the weir made of strong ashlars. The pond of the Marcs, put in water in November 1996, by the fishing society of Coligny "Les amis du Solnan", owner of the place, invites you to a relaxing pause. At the end of a stone path, the Fougemagne pond is revealed. It is named after the forest of the same name, whose origin comes from the undergrowth of large ferns. This 3 hectare pond, today property of the commune of Coligny, belonged in the 18th century to Gaspard Guyenard, Lord of Andelot. It was used for hemp scutching, an operation which consisted in separating the woody parts from the fiber. This pond is now rented by the commune to the fishing society "Les amis du Solnan".

Our farm is open to share our passion for breeding: Charolais cows, wagyus (the best meat in the world) but also Selle Français sport horses. We are attached to the respect of the animals, the environment, the transparency. Wagyu, the legendary Japanese beef. "Waygyu" means "Japanese beef". This breed is at the origin of several production areas of exceptional meat (Kobe beef, Hida beef, Ishigaki beef...) spread over the Japanese archipelago. It is from the end of the XIXth century, after more than hundred years of prohibition, that the Japanese population began to consume the meat of oxen until then used for the agricultural work. The selection of this breed was based on the marbling of the meat but also on the docility of the animal. The respect of the animal and its environment are part of the Japanese Buddhist culture. One of the best beef in the world! The marbling (intramuscular fat) gives the meat its taste: its importance is a characteristic of the rustic breeds which is lost with the selection to increase the muscle mass. It explains the unequalled flavor of Wagyu beef and its exceptional smoothness. Moreover, this meat is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, including Omega 3. These are essential fatty acids that are beneficial to health and help prevent certain diseases. Wagyu cattle are particularly well cared for by avoiding any stress. They are fattened throughout their development to reach maturity at 3 years. The Charolais, an excellent traditional meat ! We also raise a herd of Charolais cattle, carefully selected for the production of quality meat. We reserve for direct sale, young cows of 4-6 years old which have had from one to three calves: this is what gives the most tasty and tender meat. They are fattened with the same quality feed as the Wagyu cattle and the duration of fattening (from 4 to 12 months) makes it possible to obtain a very marbled meat for the breed and thus very tasty. A breeding in the Ain. Our methods are based on the renowned tradition of Bresse breeding and combine all the best in terms of genetics, food, habitat and breeding methods in respect of the animal (and the employees). The farm provides the cows' food: natural meadows, artificial meadows (Swiss Mix), and cereals make up the base. The cows and their calves are raised in freedom in the meadows during the good season (March to November). We integrate in our breeding approach, the respect of the environment: implantation of hedges, manure treated by methanization and use of the energy thus supplied to dry the fodder in barn. We optimize the plant production by alternating the grazing by cattle and horses (thus reducing the parasite pressure). Finally, to remain in the Japanese culture, we take particular care to maintain the docility of the animals by a respectful and attentive domestication.

Calendrier gaulois et dieu de Coligny

Discovered in 1897, these two Gallo-Roman remains are true archaeological treasures, now preserved in Lyon's Fourvière museum, and copies of which are on display in the hall of Coligny town hall. The Coligny god is a bronze statue (1.74 m) unearthed in multiple fragments at a place called "en Verpois" (north of the commune). It depicts an athletic, naked young man with curly hair, probably the god Mars. The missing eyes were probably glass beads. The raised right arm rests on a staff. Above the hair, a smooth band was used to attach a headdress, probably a helmet (now missing). Unfortunately, the left arm is incomplete. The significance of these naked Mars figures, whose distribution is practically limited to Northern Gaul, is undoubtedly different from that of the armored Mars. Here, the god is practically stripped of his military and warlike appearance; he could be the equivalent of Teutates, his Gallic counterpart. Dating: 2nd half of the first century. The Gallic calendar: discovered in the same place, it also dates from the same period as the god Mars. It consists of a large rectangular bronze plate (1.48 m x 0.80 m), broken into 150 fragments. Although incomplete, it is reputed to bear the longest known inscription in the Gallic language, written here in Latin characters: some 600 different words have been preserved! This is a lunisolar calendar: the months are punctuated by the phases of the moon. Five years are represented, each with 12 "ordinary" months, alternating between 29 and 30 days, to keep as close as possible to the 365-day solar year. However, two "intercalary" months have been added (one every 2.5 years), to avoid too great a discrepancy between calendar time and the reality of the seasons. Each month has a name and is divided into two fortnights separated by the word atenoux (?). Some months are marked ""mat"" (good), others ""anmat"" (bad). The days have no names. They are materialized by a hole in which a wooden peg is placed and advanced daily. A number of notations remain untranslated: they may refer to particular festivals or ceremonies that took place on that day. The perforations correspond to the location of the pegs used to mark the days. It is assumed that the calendar and statue were originally placed in a temple. Religious use would explain the permanence of this calendar, based on an ancient time-counting system that was abandoned in Roman times with the adoption of the Julian calendar in the middle of the 1st century BC.
