This walk and discovery trail, in the communes of Vernoux-sur-Boutonne and Périgné, offers a wealth of varied landscapes and built heritage: the Vernoux-sur-Boutonne hydraulic ram, the remarkable Foucambert washhouse, the "La Crézolle" castle, the Vilaine stone bridge and the old Gènebrie mill. Parking and departure from place de la mairie and salle des fêtes. Initiated in the 2000s, the walks and discoveries are now managed by the Mellois en Poitou Community of Communes, in collaboration with the local communes. To date, there are 50 of these itineraries, ranging from 1 to 16 km, enabling families, cyclists and experienced walkers to explore the region and discover its many facets (landscapes, small-scale heritage, etc.).

Thanks to archaeological excavations, we find traces of occupation of the Rochénard site since the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The 1978-79 excavations revealed a cemetery with burnt human and animal bones, fragments of ceramics and glass, as well as coins dating from the Roman period. You can find them at the Pierre-Henri Mitard cultural space in Usseau. Since 1287, the name of the commune has been in constant evolution but the toponymy is quite similar. The culture of the vine is the main activity of the commune in the XIXth century but the phylloxera puts an end to it. The inhabitants turned to livestock and cereal farming. Its name would be an alteration of forum (place of public meetings). In 1981, at Champ-Royal, excavations revealed the remains of an ancient vicus (small town) extending over three hectares with villas, baths, porticoes and forum. Mentioned for the first time in 1100, Fors is protected by its fortress, an advanced citadel of the castle of Niort erected by the Count of Poitou to delay the progression of attackers coming from the south. In 1494, the lord was Guy Poussard, a king's advisor, whose daughter Anne became the first mistress of the Count of Angouleme, the future Francis I, who would have built a manor house on the site of the castle. This former seigneurial estate was once called St-Martin-d'Augé. It included a priory close to the forest of Chizé. Where does this name come from? In the fourth century, Martin, then abbot of Ligugé, going from Availles-s.-Chizé to Mauzé-s.-le-Mignon, stopped there to evangelize the population. In 1804, the prefect Dupin wrote that "the wines, which constitute the most important income of the commune, are good, especially the whites. It is made an excellent brandy that is very close to that of Cognac". In 1928, the village takes the name of Boisserolles, located 1 km from Augé, mentioned in the 13th century. and where the town hall is located. In 2018, it merged with Prissé-la-Charrière, Belleville and St-Etienne-la-Cigogne to form the new commune of Plaine d'Argenson. The village, watered by the Mignon, is quoted for the first time in 1183. First in the hands of Aliénor d'Aquitaine, the seigneury became in 1346 the domain of the Comte d'Eu and Guines, connetable of France. Decapitated in 1350, her property was confiscated for the benefit of the Crown and later attributed to Marguerite de Valois, daughter of Charles VI. Then Charles VII gave it to Christin of Chambers, captain of his Scottish guard. In the middle of the 18th century, the parish was partly covered with communal wood. Sheep and a few oxen were raised there, and the vines were cultivated there until the phylloxera invasion in 1880. After the disappearance of Prissé-le-Grand, Belleville inherited the hamlet of Ayguis in 1888. The Grand Bousseau in Prissé-la-Charrière (chief town of the new commune of the Plaine d'Argenson), located in the locality of La Charrière, the Grand Bousseau forest, Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS), is a relic of the forest massif of Argenson where beech wood is produced.

Built in 1100, Prissé was divided into two communes in 1790: Prissé-le-Petit and Prissé-le-Grand. The latter was then divided among several villages at the end of the 19th century, while Prissé-le-Petit, once again Prissé, merged with La Charrière in 1972. The Charrière, mentioned in 1243, is cosy sitting in a small valley and crossed by the Alleuds and Puits-Neuf streams. Before 1880, it was mainly planted with vineyards producing a wine of the same quality as that of La Foye-Monjault. In 2018, Prissé-la-Charrière joined forces with Belleville, St-Etienne-la-Cigogne and Boisserolles to form the new town of Plaine d'Argenson and become its capital. Located near the old mill, the former farm appears on the Napoleonic cadastre of 1819. Its main building is composed of two levels of elevation to the south corresponding to the living rooms; one to the north for the cellar and the barn. Its south façade has bolt holes with a flight stone, which testify to the presence of a dovecote. Inside, two fireplaces and a "kitchen garden" have been preserved. Opposite, the outbuildings (animal shelter and bakehouse), of more recent construction, delimit the courtyard.

The smallest municipality of Niort Agglo is named to distinguish it from that of Thorigné, close to Celles-s. -Belle. In the Middle Ages, the seigneury depended on the election of St-Jean-d'Angély, on the generality of La Rochelle and on the seigneury of Frontenay, hence a triple affiliation with the provinces of Saintonge, Aunis and Poitou, which led to complications. Thorigny’s heart is in the church of Notre-Dame and, with the smallest number of inhabitants, forms a large family. With a focus on agriculture and livestock, the village organizes farmers' markets every summer and its country festival on the last weekend of August. It is hardly noticeable as it communicates so much with the tree that welcomes it. On the first level, a 20m2 room with a 15m2 terrace with a lounge and coffee table. Above, a small mezzanine extended by a balcony hidden in the ridge branches aspires to reverie accompanied by the whispering of leaves and the singing of birds ..
