The steady climb of 5 kilometers for an elevation gain of 800 meters will reward you with a breathtaking view of the Lac du Bourget, the Alps, the Rhône river from the rock of Chanduraz. The climb is mainly in the coolness of the forests of the Grand Colombier. (Be careful, the southern end of the rock is inaccessible). The hike follows the Parnaud nature trail on its lower part, you will discover the wine-growing tradition of the village of Chavornay: low walls, stone stairs, barns and old plots testifying to this recent past. The kitchen and scullery with a slopstone sink, the bedroom, cellar and outhouse and the dovecotes provide the stage for reconstructions and displays of the museum’s collections. Wood has always been, and continues to be, one of the area’s most important resources. An underlying theme of the visit, wood is featured in several of the museum’s collections, such as in the workshops which showcase the tools and material used in woodcraft professions (e.g. lumberjacks, coal producers, wheelwrights, coopers and woodturners). More impressive yet is the collection of turned artwork produced by 30 international artists, on display in the Renaissance house. Bugey also has a remarkable natural landscape of green countryside and rolling hills - the view from the museum illustrates this. This very pleasant walk will plunge you into the heart of the Lavours Marsh Nature Reserve. You'll be able to appreciate its beauty and richness. Be attentive and discreet... at every hour and in every season, something is happening in the marsh. A 320 m² discovery area, consisting of 5 themed rooms, the Maison du marais offers a modern and interactive museography (videos, interactive terminals, etc.) to help you understand the fauna and flora of the marsh, its history, its formation and its current management. The Maison du marais aims to prepare for a visit to the nature reserve or to complete it. It is also an information point, a nature shop and a refreshment bar.

The EARL Domaine Monin is housed in an old Savoyard fortified manor house in the village of Vongnes. Here M. Varin-Bernier will give you a warm welcome and offer advice about their choice of wines from their 400 year old vineyard. The EARL Domaine Monin has been open to the public since 1969 and is open for business 7 days a week until 19:00. The Monin family produces 2 varieties of white wine both from the Chardonnay grape as well as a rosé from a blend of Pinot-Noir, Gamay and Mondeuse. These 3 cépages are also used in the production of the Caveau Domaine Monin’s extensiverange of red wines. There are also 4 different types of sparkling wine available made using both the méthode ancestral and méthode traditionnelle techniques in addition to both Fine and Marc de Bugey digestives. The Musée des Traditions Vigneronne was born of the Caveau Bugiste's desire to preserve the memory of the gestures and skills of yesteryear. The exhibits come from the Caveau's own research, as well as from a personal collection built up over more than 20 years by Jean-Pierre Melin, an equally enthusiastic Bugiste. - Fossous, départoirs and échaudeuses recall the patient stages leading up to the grape's blossoming. - Rassiots, gauges and presses illustrate the skilful winemaking process. - Verdondaines, jabloirs and dolloires evoke the perfect mastery of the cooper. Many of these objects date from the 18th century, and some are rare and even unique. If you love exercise, nature and the great outdoors, the Praille Cross-Country Skiing Centre in the Col de la Rochette provides the ideal place to enjoy Nordic skiing. The Praille Cross-Country Skiing Centre has 8 different pistes with a combined length of 53km. These pistes are made up of 4 green runs, 1 blue runs, 2 red runs and 1 black run as well as a downhill slalom piste of 800m. There is also 5 snowshoeing circuits from 3.5 to 6.5 km in length and 2 tobogganing pistes. Accommodation is available at the nearby Gîte de Praille in addition to a bar and restaurant and children’s play area. Located to the south of the Jura Massif and Bugey’s highest point (1531 m), with over 100 km of marked hiking trails (GR9, LWG, GR) and panoramic views on the Alps (Belledonne and Mont Blanc), Bugey, Rhone, lake Bourget and Lake Annecy and Leman. There is the opportunity to discover various sites and landscapes: forests, grasslands, grangeons (temporary accommodation for winemakers) the Chartreuse Arvières ruins, ridge roads and panoramic views on the Alps.

Impressive intermittent resurgence in a Sensitive Natural Space.

Unusual conical stalagmite of 6 metres high, located in a large remote area, built over thousands of years by the Brise limestone water. Marvellous waterfall when the water flows along the cone. This site is part of 32 sites labeled Sensitive Area in the Ain department. It is forbidden to bathe in the bed of the Brise River or in the basin at the foot of the stalagmite. It is forbidden to picnic on the site. Animals accepted on leash only. Please note that the flow varies greatly with the seasons, sometimes the waterfall can be dry during the summer.

An unspoiled site nearly half a kilometre in length, where the Séran has hewn out a succession of potholes linked by deep, narrow clefts in the rock down which roaring water cascades. This site is part of 32 sites labeled Sensitive area in the Ain department. A stone pavement forms a bridge over one deep pothole, providing access to the path to the former railway station of Vieu. The gorges are located close to the hamlet of Belmont, and are part of a hiking trail named Les gorges de Thurignin. It is forbidden to bathe in the bed of the Séran and to picnic on the banks of the Séran. Animals accepted on leash only. Please note that the flow of the Séran river varies greatly over the seasons, it happens that the gorges can be dry during the summer.

Impressive waterfall about sixty meters high overlooking the hamlet of Cerveyrieu in the town of Artemare. Pots, basins, canyon and impressive waterfall make up this diverse site. The Cerveyrieu Waterfall is one of the "geological curiosities of Valromey" located along the "Séran" stream, labeled Sensitive area by the Department of Ain in 2017 along with the Gorges de Thurignin, and the canyon of Cerveyrieu , Real natural and landscape jewels of the Department of Ain. The waterfall offers a very beautiful view of the Colombier and the Alps. To admire it from above, take the D31, “sous Chassin” (between Champagne and Don). The turbulent waters of the Séran, a river classified as the first category for trout fishing, above the village of Artemare. It is forbidden to bathe in the bed of the Séran and to picnic on the banks of the Séran. Animals accepted on leash only. Karstic plateau covering several hectares, vast slabs criss-crossed by deep fissures carved out by seeping water. A beautiful walk through box and maritime pine. This pleasant place of walk, occupied since the year 58, is constituted of many lapiaz, dug by the infiltrations of water and shelters more than 200 species of plants. From la Vierge, in the middle of the maritime pines and the box trees, a very beautiful sight is offered to you. The statue was erected in 1896 to commemorate the 14th centenary of the baptism of Clovis. This site is one of 32 sites labelled "Espaces Naturels Sensibles" (ENS) in the department of Ain. Within the framework of the "Schéma départemental des espaces naturels sensibles" (SDENS 2012-2017), these environments are intended to be preserved, enhanced and open to the public, thus offering exceptional support for the promotion of the department. Geology : Limestones are more or less impure lime carbonates. They are soluble in water containing carbonic acid. It penetrates easily into the cracked limestone layers. This phenomenon characterizes the karstic relief. The lapiaz: as a result of climate change, erosion and human activities, limestone dissolves according to its purity, forming dissolution slits (grikes). They separate tables of lapiés (clints) whose shape and surface are related to the degree of cracking. On this site, these lapiaz form steps. They are called "structural benches". The flora : Crustaceous lichens colonize the bare or calcareous surface more or less flat. Then follow the black gelatinous lichens. Perennial lawn of limestone slabs: crassulent plants (orpines and basophilic plants). Dry grass: erect bromine, orchids and other protected plants. Calcareous blood geranium hems. The stable xerophilous saskatoon buxaie with oval leaves and boxwood. Wildlife : The site is home to exceptional wildlife. 21 species of birds nest on the massif, such as the Nightjar, the reptile-loving Circaète Jean Le Blanc and the red partridge. The Grand Colombier is one of the last remaining ranges in the southern Jura, culminating at 1,534m. From the summit, you can enjoy an exceptional 360° view. It is accessible by car or bike. There are many walks to be enjoyed throughout the massif. The Sur-Lyand plateau is located in the southern part of the Massif du Grand Colombier, at an altitude of 1,250 metres. For more information, see the ‘Sur-Lyand’ article. Crossed by the GR9, the Grand Colombier offers a wealth of opportunities for walking, horse-riding and cycling. The Grand Colombier was awarded the ‘ENS’ (sensitive natural area) label by the Department of Ain in 2017. The sites awarded the ENS ‘sensitive natural areas’ label are natural and landscape treasures of the Ain department, managed in such a way as to preserve the biodiversity within them and are developed so as to be able to welcome the public (with certain exceptions due to the fragility of the environments).

The gîte forestier de la Lèbe, nestled in a green setting, is located on the edge of the Gervais national forest, which makes it ideal for outdoor activities in both summer and winter. "Utsikten" is a typical old farmhouse of the Haut Valromey, recently renovated, located southwards with a breathtaking view of the Chartreuse and Vercors mountains. In the old barn, the gîte has been fitted out: two bedrooms for two people and a sleeping area in the mountain for two people. Possibility of adding sleeping accommodation for children.
