On the borders of Berry and Touraine, Angles-sur-l'Anglin owes its name to the Saxon tribe of Angles that invaded England in the 5th century, as well as to the river that separates the upper and lower parts of the village. Botanical inventories revealed the presence of 106 plant species. Despite its small size, the site has a high heritage value from a floristic point of view: it is one of the few regional and even French stations of the male peony (20 to 25 known stations of this protected species in France). In Poitou-Charentes, populations are either native or have been naturalized from seeds or plants collected in the wild. Among the 6 orchid species listed is the Monkey Orchid, which is regionally protected. Three other species on regional reference lists were also inventoried: round-fruited chickweed, wood laurel and reddish thorn.
