Walking tour from Lescheroux to discover the Pontremble pond and the hamlet of Villars. To reach the start of this 14km circuit, park your vehicle on the village square next to the church. Put your back to the sundial looking at the church and go down to the center of the village. Just after the café restaurant "Chez Delphine", turn left following the yellow signs. This circuit alternates between paved roads and good quality paths. It passes by several gîtes and tables d'hôtes, allows you to discover the nature and heritage of Bresse and it goes around the superb pond of Pontremble of nearly 50 hectares of water which, by itself, is worth the detour. At the end of the route, for a little more than a kilometer, you will follow the D1 road (be careful) and you will pass in front of the clog maker's shop before returning to your vehicle.

Founded in 1866 by a group of local notables, this museum is situated in a beautiful 17th century town house. It has a fine art collection with intimate light-filled landscapes by the early impressionist Antoine Chintreuil; a room dedicated to calligraphy and to the works of Jacques le Roux; another room for popular arts and traditions. Finally, there is an exhibition of curiosities from the animal and mineral worlds, objects brought back from faraway places, and exotic birds.The museum holds temporary exhibitions each season.

A fine example of a half-timbered, wattle-and-daub farmhouse, dating from 1581, with an admirable cruciform gallery serving as a first-floor balcony. Its northern section was demolished shortly after 1900. The belfry is in the shape of a Romanesque pyramidal bell tower. Special feature: the well is equipped with a double crank handle, a reminder that the farm was once divided between two sisters whose relationship was far from cordial! Stroll around the vegetable garden, the orchard with its ancient varieties, and the corn and hemp crops.

Our farm is open to share our passion for breeding: Charolais cows, wagyus (the best meat in the world) but also Selle Français sport horses. We are attached to the respect of the animals, the environment, the transparency. Wagyu, the legendary Japanese beef. "Waygyu" means "Japanese beef". This breed is at the origin of several production areas of exceptional meat (Kobe beef, Hida beef, Ishigaki beef...) spread over the Japanese archipelago. It is from the end of the XIXth century, after more than hundred years of prohibition, that the Japanese population began to consume the meat of oxen until then used for the agricultural work. The selection of this breed was based on the marbling of the meat but also on the docility of the animal. The respect of the animal and its environment are part of the Japanese Buddhist culture. One of the best beef in the world! The marbling (intramuscular fat) gives the meat its taste: its importance is a characteristic of the rustic breeds which is lost with the selection to increase the muscle mass. It explains the unequalled flavor of Wagyu beef and its exceptional smoothness. Moreover, this meat is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, including Omega 3. These are essential fatty acids that are beneficial to health and help prevent certain diseases. Wagyu cattle are particularly well cared for by avoiding any stress. They are fattened throughout their development to reach maturity at 3 years. The Charolais, an excellent traditional meat ! We also raise a herd of Charolais cattle, carefully selected for the production of quality meat. We reserve for direct sale, young cows of 4-6 years old which have had from one to three calves: this is what gives the most tasty and tender meat. They are fattened with the same quality feed as the Wagyu cattle and the duration of fattening (from 4 to 12 months) makes it possible to obtain a very marbled meat for the breed and thus very tasty. A breeding in the Ain. Our methods are based on the renowned tradition of Bresse breeding and combine all the best in terms of genetics, food, habitat and breeding methods in respect of the animal (and the employees). The farm provides the cows' food: natural meadows, artificial meadows (Swiss Mix), and cereals make up the base. The cows and their calves are raised in freedom in the meadows during the good season (March to November). We integrate in our breeding approach, the respect of the environment: implantation of hedges, manure treated by methanization and use of the energy thus supplied to dry the fodder in barn. We optimize the plant production by alternating the grazing by cattle and horses (thus reducing the parasite pressure). Finally, to remain in the Japanese culture, we take particular care to maintain the docility of the animals by a respectful and attentive domestication.

Sand Dunes at Sermoyer The sand dunes known as “les Charmes” are a big surprise so far from the sea, and are the product of winds and flood waters. The open spaces are surrounded by woodland and some wetlands. This variety of natural habitats encourages an exceptional variety of species. A pedestrian path of 1.5km leads you round and helps you to discover the riches of this rare site, thanks to the presence of a series of signs and labels. Ile de la Motte at St Benigne This island is home to colonies of herons: black-crowned night heron, little egrets, cattle egrets. They may not like to be disturbed during the breeding season. The presence of this island in the river strongly encourages diverse fish life. Entry free - Information Board at Site Entry - Allow 30 minutes

“Prairie” of the Saone Valley This area consists of the huge meadows of the Saone valley and the hedged farmland of Bresse. To the west the rich meadows, floodplain of the Saone, dedicated to cattle and agriculture. This area is of great interest as much for its birdlife as for its plant life. Here you can see common curlews, black-tailed godwits, grasshopper warblers, skylarks and wheatears, “Rale des Genets”(groaning broom) among others.

The Montalibord farmhouse features a Saracen-style mantel with a square, pyramidal bolster of an uncommonly abraded form. It is surmounted by a wrought-iron cross and its sides are decorated with triangular imbrications. Dendrochronological analyses show that the house was built in 1450, 1517-1518 and underwent several alterations in 1780. The chimney and roof were listed in 1944, and the whole farmhouse in 1974. Beautifully flowered in fine weather, it is still in business today (Charolais cattle, pond fishing and tourist accommodation = gîte and chambres d'hôtes). Inhabited until the mid-70s, it still has an open-air fireplace and period furniture (19th c. or even earlier), in particular an imposing archebanc (ancestral bench) with storage and a table. Also on display are a salt chair, a four-poster bed, tables and benches for meals, a tourti (bread ladder), a sink stone, a chest... In the old rooms, a presentation of the farm from 1932 to the present day, with a few tools and photos showing the evolution of farming techniques, but also the philosophy that has always prevailed on this farm over the three generations that have succeeded one another: the quest for quality. The eco-museum can be visited daily. Guided tours available on request.

Grandval farmhouse, named after an ancient parish, has been brought back to life by Morgan Benoît, the new owner since 2021. The great room, with its fireplace and period furniture, is open to visitors by special arrangement during the Heritage Days. The Grandval farmhouse dates back to the very early 16th century. The oak used to support the Saracen fireplace was felled in 1503. The Saracen fireplace was listed as a historic monument in 1925, and the body of the house in 1981. In 2021, the farm was bought by Benoît Morgan, a heritage enthusiast from Mézériat, where his grandparents and great-grandparents were millers. The farm is open for Heritage Days in September. In 2023, more than 400 people visited it. PLEASE NOTE: Exceptionally open on request and for the European Heritage Days.

Lande des Oignons at Boz (onion /bulb moor) A peat bog in the Saone Valley! Here at Boz the peat is acidic, a very unusual feature for this region and at the height of 200 metres above sea level. This special area is home to amphibians, dragon-flies, historical plants, wetlands and marshes. An information board on site is a very helpful guide. The village is a treasure trove of souvenirs of its rich historical past, with its fomer hospice, octagonal tower, vestiges of the mediaeval town, the "carronnière" (mediaeval tile and brick factory), poype (man-made mound), church and half-timbered houses - simply use your eyes! Frédéric Martin welcomes you to his restaurant "La Table Bâgésienne" in Bâgé-le-Châtel (the former capital of Bresse with its castle and ramparts) since 1994.
