The conurbation, in collaboration with SPC Mobilités, is introducing a new service: the Melivélo Bike Station. The scheme not only offers bike hire, but also parking, bike maintenance and a concierge service. As part of the new multimodal interchange in the centre of the station, the conurbation is building the Mélivélo cycle stand in rue Séjourné (just outside the station, on the La Rochette side). You can hire different types of bike (city bikes or electric bikes) and a full range of accessories to equip your two-wheeler for periods ranging from one day to one year. There's something for everyone! The scheme offers bike hire from €15 a day, as well as parking, bike maintenance and a concierge service. A temporary Mélivélo bike hire shop is located at 2 rue Daubigny in Melun. There's also a bike repair and maintenance service and, to meet your day-to-day needs, a concierge service. Subscribers will also have access to dry-cleaning, shoe repair and even delivery of non-perishable goods purchased from partner merchants. New: The Melun Val de Seine Tourist Office has set up a "Cycling Corner" in its new reception area. The world-famous 17th-century château and its estate represent the most perfect "harmony between architecture and landscape". To visit Vaux-le-Vicomte is to immerse yourself in French magnificence. The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte was designed in the 1650s by some of the greatest artists of the time: architect Louis Le Vau, painter Charles Le Brun, landscape architect André Le Nôtre, master mason Michel Villedo and maître d'hôtel François Vatel. Dazzled by their work, Louis XIV called on them to build the Château de Versailles. Magnificent old horse-drawn carriages and their crews are on display in the large stables. The carriages are presented in settings based on the themes of town, country and hunting. It is difficult to know precisely when the inn was built. Before 1820, the only inns in the region were at Chailly. Luck has had it that the newspaper “L’Illustration” published a full report in 1853, illustrated with engravings, showing the pictorial treasures hidden inside this modest inn, the major part of which has come miraculously down to us. The very serious Revue des Arts published in 1854 a guided tour of the three ground floor rooms and detailed the decorations. For the first time, the Musée de la gendarmerie nationale is presenting its heritage to the general public. With a rich and varied collection, it takes visitors on a journey through the history of the institution (missions, daily life, resources, etc.). Over 2,000 years old, Melun, the prefecture town, developed around its island and the Seine. A royal town from the 11th century and throughout the Middle Ages, Melun still boasts a wealth of prestigious monuments. The Ile Saint-Étienne on the Seine and the historic town centre have some very fine traces of the past. Located on the Ile Saint-Étienne, discover places full of charm and history: the collegiate church of Notre-Dame, the priory of Saint-Sauveur, the remains of the old fortifications, the facades of the old post office and the municipal museum in the Hôtel de la Vicomté, as well as the botanical garden. Melun's present-day town centre is packed with Portes, old houses and porches dating back to the Middle Ages.

The Saint-Sauveur priory is one of Melun's oldest monuments. Its remains have been listed as a historic monument since 1946. Listed as a Historic Monument, the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame, founded by King Robert the Pious, is a fine example of 11th-century Romanesque art in Melun. A royal building from the 11th century Founded between 1016 and 1031 by King Robert the Pious, the collegiate church of Notre-Dame bears witness to the Romanesque art of the 11th century in the Ile-de-France region. The 50-metre-long nave, with its large arcades and high windows, was built in a single stretch. There are also 12th-century cross vaults and remarkable Gothic capitals, sculpted with bouquets of palmettes and mermaid birds. A portal of infinite grace according to Auguste Rodin In the 16th century, the façade was brought up to date in the Renaissance style. Between 1515 and 1524, the south tower was repaired. The emblem of François 1st and the initial of Queen Claude of France were affixed to the west face, which can still be seen today. Auguste Rodin wrote about it in Les cathédrales de France in 1911, describing the collegiate church's portal as "of infinite grace". Listed as a Historic Monument This building was selected by Prosper Mérimée in 1840 as a monument of national interest, a list that prefigured the Monuments Historiques list. The collegiate church of Notre-Dame de Melun is also famous for having housed the famous "Diptych of Melun", painted by Jean Fouquet around 1450.

In the Middle Ages, this land on the banks of the Almont was made available to the Carmelite community. Following a number of disputes and damage to the common property, in 1864 the Municipal Council ordered the creation of drainage ditches, the restoration of the meadow and the construction of a path along the banks of the Almont. In order to show the inhabitants of the suburb how much he cared for them, King Louis VII of France, who was very fond of Melun, granted the inhabitants the right to use and graze "la prairie des Carmes". Today, this land is still used for market gardening and is known as the Jardins familiaux des Carmes. As part of its Agenda 21 initiative, the town recently rehabilitated 33 plots to give them a more coherent visual appearance. At the same time, an occupancy agreement was signed with the "Union des locataires des jardins des Carmes" management association, setting out the rights and obligations of both the City and the gardeners, as well as a number of measures to promote environmentally-friendly gardening. Private site not open to visitors. In Roman times, the temple of Jupiter Penninus stood on the site of the present-day church, giving rise to the name of the commune. The castle we know today is the 4th to be built on the same foundations. It was built in 1766 by Michel Louis Fréteau de Saint Just. The castle's existence is attested as far back as 1050 by a royal edict, preserved in the Bibliothèque nationale, which mentions Peny as the lord of the fief. It has Roman foundations. The castle has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1946.

Sketches, models and original plaster casts by the sculptor Henri Chapu (1833-1891), winner of the Prix de Rome in 1855. He took part in the decoration of numerous monuments (the Opéra, sculptures in the grounds of the Château de Chantilly, etc.) and was a good portrait painter (Alexandre Dumas). Henri Chapu played an important role in 19th century sculpture.

The Moulin du Roy, also known as the "Moulin d'en Haut", belongs to the commune of Rubelles. Its existence is documented as far back as 980 AD. It is said to have been named in honour of King Robert the Pious, who had the town of Melun liberated around the year 1000. It remained in royal ownership until 1594, when Henry IV sold it to Monsieur De la Grange, governor of Melun. In 1889, the mill was converted into a dairy by the Mollereau family and renamed the "Grande Laiterie de Trois-Moulins". The dairy collected milk from farms in nearby towns such as Maincy, Rubelles, Blandy and Champeaux. The milk was then delivered to Melun. In 1897, the dairy was awarded a Diplôme d'Honneur for "Speciality Cream Cheese" at the "Exposition de l'Industrie et Fêtes du Commerce" in Paris. It was then taken over by the future writer and adventurer Henri de Monfreid from 1909 to 1910. In 1913, the Jonot family moved in and continued to run the dairy until the 1960s, when it was forced to close for good due to a lack of milk. The mill, which has recently been renovated, is now used as a home. It faces a residence that once belonged to the academician Count Franz de Champagny, who is buried in the chapel on the property.

The Maincy Bridge is located in the hamlet of Trois-Moulins, near the "Moulin d'en bas". It crosses the river Almont, and was built in 1822 by Colonel Thomson to access his home (Château de Coudray). In August 2004, the wooden section was completely restored. This rural spot is now protected, as it forms the boundary of the site classified as the picturesque character of the Ru de l'Ancoeur Valley. The bridge became famous thanks to Paul Cézanne's painting of it. The work is currently on display at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. The artist painted this spot during his stay in Melun from April 1879 to March 1880, in a house on Place de la Préfecture. A recluse, he led a very discreet life there, devoting himself to painting. From time to time, he made a brief trip to Paris, visiting Emile Zola for a fortnight. He wrote him several letters from Melun.
