Roaming along the roads of the historical centre, this city tour will take you on a discovery of Pontarlier’s emblematic locations: architectural, historical and symbolic city buildings, the banks of the Doubs and a viewpoint over the city. From the Tourist Office (), descend rue de la Gare to rue de la République.Head to Place d’Arçon, on your left. From here, you can see the Saint-Pierre gate at the end of the road.From the square, take rue de la Halle near the theatre. At the end of the road, head to the old barracks via place des Bernardines and place Cretin, on your right. Go to the bridge across the Doubs by heading through place Jules Pagnier and rue de Morteau.From here, make a round trop (1.2 km) to the Armand Guy distillery via rue des Lavaux.On returning to rue de Morteau, enter the park on the edge of the Doubs and follow the embankments on a little adapted path; this will take you to the other side of the park. Join up with rue de la République by leaving the park through rue Julez Mathez, where you will find the Jeanne d’Arc high school.   On arriving at rue de la République, head left until you reach another bridge over the Doubs. From here, make a round trip to the Hospital to observe its facade and the two chapels that can be seen from the road.On returning to rue de la République, after crossing the bridge once more, head down rue Montrieux and take rue Gambetta on your right to reach place Saint-Bénigne and the church. From the square, head to the train station vie rue Tissot. From here, you can head directly to the Tourist Office via rue de la Gare. You can also make a round trip of under 2 km to the Chapelle de l’Espérance, with a stunning viewpoint over the whole city. It can be accessed by heading down rocade George Pompidou until you come to rue du Stand, then head under the railway and take rue de la Chapelle (yellow waymarking) directly to the viewpoint.

Bike-tour that leads you all around the element water. Natural sources, little lakes, the canal, the watershed (source of Madon flowing to the North, source of Saône flowing to the South) and a natural warm water source in the woods.

Trail market out in both directions by a blue ring, which can be combined with circuit 7 (Caution: red triangle marking at the start of the Bains-Les-Bains tourism office since this section is shared with other trails, then blue ring marking at the Parc Thermal) Through the countryside, between meadows and undergrowth, this rather shady walk is almost mostly small tarmac country roads, so it can be done with a pushchair for example. At the Grands Prés, a beautiful restored house, then traditional charri farms mark out this route with a slight difference in level. Nice view over the highest point of Le Noirmont.

Trail marked out by a green ring. At the start, follow the signs shared by all the trails: red triangle, then after the thermal park, follow the green ring. This trail is accessible to all and shaded, ideal for hot weather. The trail starts at the thermal baths of Bains-les-Bains. On the way out, you pass through the charming spa park of the resort. From this point on, follow the two-way marking with a green ring. By taking the avenue du Docteur Bailly, then the route de la gare you will gradually leave the town and you will find yourself in the nature. This route follows a charming stream. At the roundabout, take the path along the D164. It will be accessible on your right. Don't forget to take a moment to observe the surrounding nature with its diverse flora and fauna. Then your steps will lead you to the forest hill of Rédé. Finally the path will take you across the D164 and back in the opposite direction. You will retrace your steps via the rue de Bertramont and return to the town and the starting point.

Blue ring marking - Varied trail - At the Rue de la Pavée near the camping area, follow the small marked path. Continue on this path until you cross the Rue des Anciens Moulins. The big building in front of you is an old wire drawing mill. Wire drawing is the process of reduction of the cross-section of a metal wire by mechanical traction on a drawing machine. Factories that specialise in wire drawing are called wire drawing mills. Turn left to continue along Rue des Anciens Moulins. Follow the markings to a small path in the forest. You come to a crossroads, turn right. You will come to another crossroads, turn right again. The road you are taking was the old road used by the inhabitants of Trémonzey to get to work in the factory, the mills, the wire drawing mill... You will arrive at the Moulin au bois, a former nail factory. This metallurgical factory, known as the Moulins-aux-Bois forge in the 16th century, then became a hardware factory (nails) in the 19th century. It definitely closed in 1980. The film "Indigène" by Rachid Bouchared was shot in this area. The film takes place in 1943, when France is trying to free itself from Nazi domination. It follows the journey of four "natives", forgotten soldiers of the 1st French army recruited in Africa. Cross the D434 to continue straight ahead over a bridge. You will walk along the Canal des Vosges and the river Le Côney, then cross a wooden bridge. Continue on this road and you will see the Manufacture on your left, then the beech tree opposite the Châtelet. Take the straight road on the left (possibility of a path through the wood on the left, to be avoided in wet weather). Following the markings, cross the road carefully and go up on the right by a stone path, an old Roman road.

The starting point is at the Tourism Office of La Vôge-Les-Bains. First, follow the markings common to all the routes (red triangle). Then, after the pedestrian street, follow the markings with a green ring. Via a small country road, the rural setting surrounding the resort of Bains Les Bains is quickly enjoyable by the hikers: green hills, damp undergrowth and a wooden bridge spanning the "Ru Migaille" near the ruins of the old Quenot forge. Follow the rue du Haut Champ and after crossing the D164, you will slowly make it to the countryside, through fields and forest. Follow this path which will take you past a lovely stream. After crossing the stream, take the path on the right which will lead you to the preserved site of the Etang Lallemand in the village of Les Voivres with its fish farm. It is an ideal place for a picnic break, or to observe the fauna and flora of the wetlands. This site is also part of the Lorraine observatory of sensitive environments. Continue along the path and at the crossroads, turn right to return to La Vôge-Les-Bains. At the next crossroads, turn left, cross the D164 again, and return to the starting point, via the rue des Creuses. Marking: green ring

For a quick and panoramic discovery of the resort of Bains Les Bains, this short forestry trail, just a stone's throw from the centre and with a steep slope, allows the discovery of the Million hill overlooking the spa. It owes its name to the honey that used to be produced there.

After a gradual slope on the road and then through the fields (lookout point for observing the fauna) to the Bourguignotte recreation area (shelter, drinking water and children's playground), this hike continues into the undergrowth on a footpath. After the hamlet of Raval, discovery of the Fontaine aux chèvres in a beautiful beech forest, then crossing the hamlet of Fontenelles, the way back goes through the beautiful forest paths to the Fouillies wood.

The telecombi is a teleport with seats and cabins. The Télécombi du Mont Rond, coming from the Col de la Faucille, allows you to access the crests of the Haute Chaîne du Jura; it lifts you from 1323m to 1543m altitude. Once there, the hiker is only 30mn walk away to reach the Grand Mont Rond (1596m), and 2h for the Colomby de Gex (1689m). 2 blue pistes for all mountain biking are marked from the top of the télécombi. In winter, it allows snowshoe enthusiasts to reach the summits with ease and to enjoy the ridges. Please respect the regulations set up by the Natural Reserve of the Jura Range.

The association « Les amis du Vieux Fontenoy » organise a party to celebrate these 40 years. Around one of the oldest Dungeon of Lorraine many activities will be proposed. On the programme : conferences of the Middle Age, visit of the castle ruin, demonstration of arts and crafts, open air cinema, … You will find food service on the spot.

The Lombard Tower is the last trace of the fortifications erected in the 14th century when the town was connected to the House of Burgundy. Also known as the “Tour du Poids”, it was used for administrative purposes during the economic boom of the town during the Renaissance. To discover: 2 traditional vaulted artillery rooms with three gun ports and a beautiful Guard Room on the 3rd level. Tours every third Monday from mid-March to mid-November with the Tourist Information Office of Bains-Les-Bains. Occasional tours by the “Amis du Vieux Fontenoy” association in summer and during the Heritage Days in September.

Immerse yourself in a moment of history that pays tribute to the work of hundreds of women who, in their modest homes, worked hard to dress the international high society. Let yourself be guided to the room where the men worked in the forges and wire-drawing mills of the area. You will find our Museum of Embroidery, Metalwork and Heritage in the heart of the village of Fontenoy-le-Château, which has about 600 inhabitants. The Museum brings back to life the period of 1850-1975, when the embroidery of Fontenoy was a worldwide success. Don't hesitate to enter the museum! As you walk through it, you will see unique pieces made by women who used to embroider up to 15 hours a day in their kitchens for the crowned heads of the world. Put yourself in their shoes: embroidering underpants for the Shah of Iran, a blouse for the Queen of England, without knowing what they will look like when finished, or even a tablecloth for the Elysée or the Crillon Hotel without ever knowing how luxurious they will be? Don't forget to take a break in the room dedicated to metalworking to discover the work of the men of La Pipée or Moulin Cotant who made nails and cutlery, and often carried out the household tasks that their wives could not do because they were so busy with embroidery. Finally, emblematic figures of this village: Gilbert, the poet, and Julie Victoire Daubié, the first female to get a baccalaureate in France, will tell you their story. Built in 1771 based on the design of the knight d’Arçon, to replace the entrance across the ramparts, the Saint-Pierre entrance is now one of the symbols of Pontarlier. Remodelled during the 12th century, it has kept its classical style and is listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments. Adorned with lines reminiscent of the Arc de Triomphe, the entrance appears like a crown atop the rue de la République and marks a symbolic transition from the more contemporary districts and the historic centre. During the early 20th century, the theatre was built as a reception hall above the Pontarlier market-hall. These market-halls are reminiscent of the large fairs that have been held in the city since the 13th century. During the 14th century, these fairs experienced a boom when the Col de Jougne (15 km south) became a commercial crossing point between the North Sea and the Mediterranean. The congregation of Les Annonciades Célestes de Pontarlier was established in 1609 by six young women from Pontarlier. The monastery’s baroque-style door, created by the sculptor Joseph Guyon, can still be admired. Its portal, which has been classed a historical monument, was completed in 1715 based on the plans set out by Nicolas Callier, an architect and entrepreneur from Besançon, and was later modified during the 19th century. At the heart of the historic centre is the vast expanse offered by the Place d’Arçon where the town hall and the Pontarlier museum are both located. The first was completed in 1838 and originally housed an indoor market on the ground floor. The museum is located in one of the city’s oldest buildings, a combination of three houses, the oldest of which dates back to the 15th century. (PNRHJ - Un tour en ville, “A tour of the town”)

These barracks, which were built with some of the money allocated by Louis XV to reconstruct Pontarlier after the fire in 1736, could house up to 200 men and just as many horses. The two L-shaped buildings were linked by a huge door, however, the municipality refused to close the square on the other side. This place was therefore split between a place of armament and a public place. In 1922, the door was removed, to allow for better circulation. (PNRHJ - Un tour en ville, “A tour of the town”)

A former coach house, to which it owes its name, the La Poste brewery received the 20th Century Heritage label for its Art-Deco style. It is also famous for having been the place where “Septième Juré” starring Bernard Blier and “Les Granges Brûlées” starring Simone Signoret and Alain Delon were both filmed. We welcome you in our gite which is near the Vosges canal and only a few kilometres from the spa centre. The nice two bedrooms we offer have all the comfort you need. You can also enjoy the patio and a pétanque strip to help you recover.

The marina of Fontenoy-le-Château is along the Vosges canal. A few kilometres away, discover the city of Bains-les-Bains and the Manufacture Royale, one of the most beautiful industrials of the 18th century. In Fontenoy-le-Château, go and discover this medieval, typical village and admire the ruins of its castle. In the centre of the village, you will find a museum of embroidery and metalworking.

In the south of the Vosges, at the foot of the Massif Vosgien, in the calm of the countryside and between the thermal baths of Bains-les-Bains (8km), Plombières-les-Bains (14km) and Luxeuil-les-Bains (21km), you will stay in a flat in the owner's house.
