Go on a journey of discovery of a wild Drome Provencale. The famous Col de Valouse and Col de la Chaudiere, give a impressive view of Drome Provencale on one side and the Vercors on the other. You’ll cross mediaeval villages and fortified castles. Appreciate the cool air in the gorges of St. May, take a dip in the river Aygues. You rejoin the Drome Valley and its river through Saillans, at the foot of the famous Trois Becs and at the heart of the renowned vineyards of Clairette de Die. The food lovers among you will enjoy tasting the products of the region throughout the journey. Take a short while or even a day of rest to visit the unmissable: The Pas des Ondes lake at Cornillon-sur-l’Oule; a visit to sample Clairette de Die and Picodon cheese; a hike on the Trois Becs; the castle at Poet-Celard with its children’s science museum; vulture watching at St. May; the potteries at Dieulefit; canoeing on the Drome ……. It’s your choice.

If you love contrasting landscapes, you're in for a treat! Along the way, you'll pass through holm oak woods, vineyards and lavender fields. 36 km. Caution: altitude difference. Not recommended for small children. Departure from the Tourist Office – Valréas Turn left and left again to the 2 next following roundabouts. At the end of the avenue, at the roundabout with a little olive tree, follow the roadsign for Vinsobres, then at the end take the D46 towards Vinsobres. The road goes steeply uphill with hairpin bends for 4 km winding through vineyards, truffle oaks and fruit orchards. At the Sainte Croix crossroads, in the bend, turn right towards Visan (Beautiful cross to be seen). The minor road follows the crest of the hill for 5,3 km and all the way along there are lovely views, on the left of the plateau de Vinsobres and the Baronnies hills, the Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail (occasionally on the right you can catch a glimpse of Valréas in the distance through the trees). 1. After a steep downhill section crossing the D191 at les Françons, turn left towards the quartier Poulidon. At the bridge, turn right towards Visan and go on the steep uphill for 1,7 km. You will come to a crossroads where you must turn right towards Visan. Have a look at the wonderful field of olive trees on the left side. The long downhill run to Visan (3,5 km) goes past vineyards, Austrian pines and truffle oaks. 2. In Visan, at the crossroads with the pharmacy facing you, turn right as far as the roundabout and then turn left into D20 towards Richerenches (7km). You can see on your right, the “montagne de la Lance”, as the backdrop of the route. Go through the village of Richerenches. 3. and as you leave the village take a left turn towards Montségur sur Lauzon. The road is surrounded by fields of lavender and aromatic herbs. Just before the bridge over the stream, the Aulière, turn right towards Grillon. 4. Keep going straight along the road (no turnings) up to the junction with the D20 from Richerenches. 5. Turn left, then in a big bend, turn left towards Grillon. You arrive in Grillon. In the “Place de la Bourgade”, take the road for Valréas and leave the village. At the last bend to the left, just past the guesthouse “Au vieux chêne”, don’t take the main road round the bend but continue straight on along the old road (so that you can avoid the main road which has lots of traffic). But still watch out for traffic on the old road. 6. At the “Stop” sign, go straight on to get back to Valréas. When you get to the town, follow the cours de Gaulle which goes up to your right and follow the tourist Office signs.

This small easy loop is especially nice to do while lavender are in bloom (June and July). Ideal for a family outing, it should be noted that if almost all of the route is very practicable, a portion makes it impossible for strollers (even all terrain strollers). In order not to disturb the wildlife, dogs must be leashed.

At the 1st gate continue up along the basalt cliff to the junction at LA PLAINE DU REGARD DIRECTION: BERZEME Then cross the pastures towards Berzème, crossing the junction at BRASSE NEGRE DIRECTION: BERZEME Follow a little road beside the fields up to the crossroads at FAUGERES DIRECTION: ST PONS You will then enter a typical Coiron pasture in which you will stay well over to the left following the markings. Then take a path that goes quite steeply down to La Roche Chérie. From this point, go back down the road to LA PEYRE DIRECTION: ST PONS From there, climb up through the middle of a field, where you will then continue along beside the fence and then turn right onto a path that will take you back to the village. Variant: at La Peyre, climb up to the left on a path on basalt flow deposits. Once on the plateau, turn right along the fences to cross the Plaine du Regard, with a magnificent view point! You will then come back to the Plaine du Regard pillar, which indicates the descent back to St Pons.

This greenway is exclusively reserved for pedestrians, cyclists and rollerbladers.... Signposts are installed all along the walk. It crosses the town from east to west, from the rond-point de l'Europe to the Espace de loisirs Saint-Paul 2003, passing through the gardens and strong heritage features of our town: Jardin Saint-Vincent, Orchard des Enfants de Barbière, Jardins du Resseguin. For your safety and enjoyment, the promenade is lit at night.

The Stone Trail is designed to help visitors discover the old paths and landscapes of the Saint Restitut commune. Departure point: Saint-Restitut information point (local post office) Cross the Combettes parking lot, climb the Resquillette path (stairs), cross the Four à Chaux crossroads and head for Suze. On the right hand side of the Madone, follow the road for 50m and turn left onto the Chemin des Travers, then a path leading down into the woods. When you reach the tarmac road (chemin des Gravières), follow it for 200m on your right, cross the crossroads and take a path through the woods. When you reach the Chemin de la Côte, immediately take a path to the right (steep climb) and you'll come to the asphalt road, turn left, follow it for 100m and turn left onto the Chemin du Baumas. Return to Chemin de la Côte and turn right onto Chemin des Buisses (steep climb). Continue along this path until you reach a crossroads (signpost and milestone B4), turn left onto chemin du Planès, continue straight ahead on chemin des écoliers, and take a small downhill path *(sign P5) overlooking the plain, the Ventoux, the Lance, etc. Leave the pumping station on your left. Continue on your right (sign P6). Follow the path over the rocks and through the woods (signpost B3), take the path rising to the left and chemin des Roches. Turn left onto Chemin du Planès, then right onto Chemin des Pieux (shared route). Follow it (sign P4) and take the tarmac road on the left. Back to the village. * Alternative option: turn right (long walk) and return to milestone B3. Rochemaure offers an amazing castle with ramparts going down into the valley, Notre-Dame-des-Anges’ beautiful chapel, a medieval village and the old bridge above Rhône restored as a Himalayan footbridge. The village of Rochemaure is an exceptional classified and registered heritage. The buildings are black and white because of basalt and limestone combinations which give it an elegant look. The medieval castle from the 12th century, the ramparts from the 13th century, Jovyac’s castle from the 16th century and Olivier de Serres’ hydraulic system are classified monuments. The old bridge, Notre-Dames-des Anges’ chapel, the old village are in the inventory of registered heritage. But Rochemaure is also well-known for: - ViaRhôna: the cycling road from Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean Sea alongside the Rhône, which is 100 meters from the village. Perched high above the Rhône valley on its volcanic neck, Rochemaure castle has still not yielded all its secrets. It was probably built by the Adhémar family from Montélimar between the 11th and 12th centuries. The old village is well worth a visit and offers marvellous views over the river. Overlooking the Rhône valley from its impressive dungeon, Rochemaure castle is still as fascinating today as ever for everyone. This castle was built by the Adhémar family from Monteil between the 11th and the 12th century. Its remains have still not given up all its mysteries. The fortified castrum from the 12th century, including ramparts and flanking towers that we can still see and the old village are medieval. We can see chequered black basalt and white limestone’s stones, which are found in lots of villages in our territory. Geologically, Rochemaure castle was built in a strategic location. Coiron plateau’s basalt and Cruas limestone quarry were used to supply the construction of the castle and the lovely old village. We can admire spectacular views of the Rhône and volcanic landscapes.

The Taulignan silk museum is an essential place for Drôme know-how with its 600 m2 of collections and animated machines. A film traces the origin of silk. On the southern slope of the plateau, locals benefit fully from the ideal situation of the village. The Romans knew it at the time and evidence of their presence here was found through excavations. Located along the river Rhone, the defile of Donzère separates the plain of Montélimar and the plain of Tricastin with majestic limestone cliffs blazing at sunset. No longer as powerful and wild as it was before the gigantic engineering work of men, the river has now settled. The village itself, former stronghold of the prince-bishops of Viviers, offers to adventurers who dare to leave the main road and the highway, a range of beautiful scenery along the village’s narrow streets and shaded squares. Stop off at the "Amis du Vieux Donzère" museum, housed in a remarkable house with a Renaissance facade, to admire collections recounting the town's history from its earliest days.

A fortified and perched medieval site exceptionally preserved. Located on a rocky headland, in a water drop shape, the village dominates the Barrès plain, spotlighting the remnants of its medieval past. Visitor arrives through the Notables’ door, which is the main access; he can see the particular configuration that allowed defending it. Through the heart of the village, several stalls look like they are ready to open. The Dungeon (from the late 12th century), head office of the City Hall, highlights the limestone stone, in contrast to the chequered buildings that combine white and black stones of Coiron. Fortified village which is listed building as historic monument, Saint-Vincent-de-Barrès is also labelled as a “Village of character" since March 19th, 2012. This medieval village is perched on a basalt neck from the Barrès plain. There are lots of narrow streets, winding roads and houses in basalt. Built on a rocky headland overlooking the plain and the current road from Privas to Le Teil passing by Meysse, towards the Coiron plain, Saint-Vincent-de-Barrès is a good example of a fortified village, which is partially preserved and restored. It has six towers along the ramparts and four others (including the prison tower) protecting the castle. The dungeon is from the end of the 11th century, the additions of the castle have been added in the 12th and 13th centuries. We can see The Chambaud de La Tourette family’s heraldry, above the City Hall door, in the renovated buildings of the castle. Sir "Stéphane", a knight, would have built a fort at the Barry, in front of Saint-Vincent-de-Barrès in 925. Before the 10th century and according to the “charta vetus”, the diocese of Viviers created a foundation on the Gallo-Roman villa territory: the villa Artenica. In 1020, the Bishop of Viviers swapped with the Benedictines monks of Cluny the church of Saint Vincent with the church of Meysse. The Benedictines monks stayed almost until the French revolution. In 1905, Genton of Barrès took part of the first crusade. A disagreement between the Valentinois earl and the Bishop of Viviers about the suzerainty of the Barrès is set in 1213, to the benefit of the Bishop. Barry fort, sold to the Valentinois earl in 1256, is seized by order of the King in 1390, and returned in 1392. From 1424 to 1446, the Barrès, like the Valentinois, belonged to the Duchy of Savoy. In 1467, it belonged to the Royal domain. In 1574, Saint-Vincent was taken by the Protestant but it stayed away from the main disorders from the Wars of religion. It was the same during the French Revolution. The rampart was partially demolished between 1830 and 1905.

Alba is bursting with 2000 years of history…What makes Alba so unique? La Roche's hamlet built around a basalt peak and the village established around the castle, also built on a volcanic peak. Located on the edge of the massif of Coiron, surrounded by vineyard, Alba-la-Romaine is proud of its rich historical past. This 2000 years old city has an impressive feudal castle, built on a volcanic dike, fenced by many houses that make it “character village”. Alba, former capital of the Helviens, a Gallic tribe, was, at the beginning of the 1st century AD., an active Gallo-Roman city before becoming the first bishopric’s headquarters of the Vivarais at the end of the 4th century. Today, we can discover the medieval village, clustered inside its 15th century ramparts. The entire village is clad in white (limestone) and black (basalt).The facades are chequered because of the basalt and limestone, local materials used to build stunning houses, given to Alba its particular atmosphere. The castle: at an undetermined period, the Bishops of Viviers have built a square dungeon on a basaltic dike around which the population formed the first castrum (fortified city). From the middle Ages until 1904, Alba bore the name of Aps, the family name of the lordship. During the French Revolution, the castle was ransacked and sold in 1793 as a national property. In 1880, a native started the castle’s restoration. Starting from 1914, several owners succeeded one another until 1975. The restoration began with the help of the Historic Monuments administration. Listed in the supplemental inventory of the Historic Monuments, the current castle, laid out on the foundations of the medieval castles, still has its substructure.

The Neck of Sceautres is the most important in Europe. There is a statue of the Virgen Mary at its peck. 130m above the village, the neck, plug of the old chimney of the volcano, allows us to discover the geology of the site. Between 6.6 and 7.7 million years ago, the relief was reversed following the birth of the Alps which generated the central massif. Lava flows filled the valleys and erosion caused basalt collapses. On the neck there was a castle which has completely disappeared today. The site is accessible to walkers, follow the signs.
